Sonny Wong, a Vietnam veteran, and Sgt. Maj. Douglas W. Yagel discuss the capabilities of the M777 Lightweight Howitzer and how it is used in modern day combat Nov. 7, 2017, at 12th Marine Regiment on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan. Wong was an interpreter attached to 12th Marines during the Vietnam War and decided to visit his old unit 51 years later. Yagel gave him a tour of the Regiment’s facilities and weapons as Wong described his experience working with the Marines.

Grant served as the director of the Tactical Exercise Control Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, after 38 years of service as an enlisted Marine and officer. Grant, from Emporia, Virginia, enlisted Oct. 2, 1963, and served as an infantryman in Vietnam in addition to various other enlisted and officer billets.

Medal of Honor recipient Master Sergeant Richard A. Pittman was laid to rest in Lodi, Calif., Oct. 24, 2016. Master Sgt. Pittman passed away on Oct. 13, 2016. He served with 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines during the Vietnam War and earned the Medal of Honor for his relentless fight against the enemy on Jul. 24, 1966 that advanced his platoon's position and saved many of his fellow Marines' lives.

The WWII SBD Dauntless dive-bomber showcases the heroic actions of the commanding officer of Marine Scout Bombing Squadron 232 and his observer/gunner over Guadalcanal in August 1942. After temporarily closing its doors nearly three months ago, the National Museum for the Marine Corps will re-open to the public on April 1, 2016 at 9 a.m. Visitors will discover a recently restored World War II SBD Dauntless dive bomber and Vietnam-era Sikorsky UH-34D helicopter which were installed during the closure
