Members of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force 15th Brigade and U.S. Marines with 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, conduct a simulated military operation during the JGSDF’s 15th Brigade 9th anniversary and the Camp Naha 47th anniversary on Camp Naha, Okinawa, Japan, Nov. 24, 2019. Marines from 3rd Marine Division were invited to attend the ceremony and festival of mock military operations, static displays and performances at the annual event. 3rd Marine Division continues to work alongside the JGSDF in order to increase interoperability and strengthen ties between partner nations.

This combined training included Marines from 3rd Transportation Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, as well as support from Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 152 and Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 169, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. This military training ensures the Marines from III Marine Expeditionary Force are constantly trained and ready to provide aerial delivery of personnel or equipment wherever needed, quickly and effectively. The U.S. military training conducted in the INDOPACIFIC area also provides security to the region, to include our Japanese Allies.

A Marine with the Maritime Raid Force, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, utilizes a disc cutter STIHL circular saw to cut through a sheet of metal during breaching training with the Maritime Security Response Team East. The Boxer Amphibious Ready Group and the 11th MEU are deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the Western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
