A python strikes at an Indonesian Marine during jungle survival training May 28. The Indonesians demonstrated how to neutralize such threats in the jungle and use them as food. The Marines and Sailors, primarily from 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment, are participating in Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) 2011 through June. CARAT is an annual bilateral exercise held between the U.S. and Southeast Asian nations with the goals of enhancing regional cooperation, promoting mutual trust and understanding and increasing operational readiness throughout the participating nations. While in Indonesia, the service members from both nations trained in martial arts, military operations in urban terrain, jungle survival, combat marksmanship, sniper techniques and combat lifesaving skills.
