Cpl. Will D. Carter and Lance Cpl. Joel Salazar, with 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, show off the small-arms protective inserts that saved their lives. Both Marines were shot within days of one another near Abu Ghraib prison in the battalion's area of operation while conducting anti-insurgent patrols.
