Maj. John E. Orille, (right), 2nd Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 1st Iraqi Army Division Military Transition Team senior adviser, and 1st Lt. Khalid Shihab Ahmed al-Alwani, 2nd Company, 2nd Battalion company commander, greet local men while conducting a presence patrol in the town of Hembis, Iraq. Al-Alwani uses these patrols as an opportunity to talk to local leaders and members of the Sons of Iraq to gather information on possible enemy activity and build trust with the local population. The 2nd Battalion has been patrolling aggressively in the Diyala River Valley since January in an effort to clear Al Qaeda in Iraq and other terrorist groups from the area.
