Retired Marine Maj. Norman Hatch stands in front of the Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington, Va., just after a flag raising ceremony Feb. 23. The ceremony was held to honor those who fought and raised the American flag atop Mount Suribachi in Iwo Jima, Japan, Feb. 23, 1945, during World War II. Retired Marines, active duty Marines, reserve Marines and civilian spectators came to the memorial to observe the 64th anniversary of the infamous day in the nation’s history.
