Camp Pendleton, Calif.- Col. Eugene N. Apicella is congratulated by Brig. Gen. Vincent A. Coglianese during his retirement ceremony held at the Ranch House here July 3. Apicella was commissioned a second lieutenant in December 1984 and served 28 years in the Marine Corps. During the ceremony Apicella was awarded a Legion of Merit gold star in lieu of second award. "I am absolutely thrilled to be here today as the official retiring officer," said Coglianese, base commanding general and regional authority for five Marine Corps installations in the Southwestern United States. "We are here to honor Eugene and Val for an outstanding 28 year career."
