The VS-17 platforms allow aircraft pilots to have a visual aid when landing on a runway. Vangelder is a navigational aids technician and Marine Air Traffic Controller Mobile Team member from Pittsburgh, Pa., with Marine Air Control Squadron 4, Marine Air Control Group 18, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
