Lance Cpl. Steven Lopez’s path to military service is rooted in his Brooklyn upbringing. It’s little wonder the USS New York feels like home. Lopez, 23-year-old native of New York and intelligence specialist with 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., was in the fifth grade during the 9/11 attacks, and although he was 10-years-old, he said he will never forget that day.
