U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Adam Alcala, left, supervises a Republic of Korea Marine during live-fire training June 18 as part of Korean Marine Exchange Program 14-8 at the Susungri Range in Pohang, South Korea. KMEP 14-8 is carried out in the spirit of the ROK-U.S. Mutual Defense Treaty, which was signed between the two nations October 1, 1953. The exercise strengthens the enduring alliance between South Korea and the U.S. and highlights the two countries’ commitment to the defense of South Korea and peace and security in the region. Alcala is a Harrison, Arkansas, native and military policeman with Company A, 3rd Law Enforcement Battalion, III Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, III MEF.
