U.S. Army Spc. Samuel Kosgei, center, passes through the marathon banner held by Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Jr., left, and Gen. John M. Paxton, Jr., right, at the finish line during the 39th Marine Corps Marathon Oct. 26 at the National Capitol region. Runners from across the country competed in the 26.2-mile event, passing through historical monuments and buildings, and culminated at the event's finish at the Iwo Jima Memorial. Kosgei was the first place finisher at the event, completing the course in 2:22:12. Dunford is the Commandant of the Marine Corps, and Paxton is the Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps.
