Navy and Marine Corps commanders stationed across Okinawa discuss a “commander’s perspective” Feb. 6 at the Butler Officers’ Club, Camp Foster. The event was presented by the National Naval Officers Association, and fostered an opportunity for junior officers to ask questions and learn what commanders expect of them. “The mission of the NNOA is to mentor, train and retain a diverse set of officers in the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard,” said U.S. Marine Capt. Anthony Gantt. “It is not diversity in color or gender, but diversity in thought.” The leadership panel provided two hours of a discussion, in which younger officers could learn and grow as leaders. Gantt is a Miami, Florida, native and an air support control officer with Marine Air Support Squadron 2, Marine Air Control Group 18, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
