Capt. Sarah K. Raley reads a story about insects to a 5th grade class during National Read Across America Day March 2 at Camp Kinser Elementary School, Okinawa, Japan. Read Across America Day is observed every year on March 2, which is also the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, the writer and cartoonist of internationally acclaimed children’s books, including “The Cat in the Hat.” Every year, service members and civilians stationed on Okinawa volunteer to read to students at elementary schools on U.S. military bases across the island, and the children are encouraged to read and share their favorite stories with their class. Raley is a native of Austin, Texas, and watch officer with the Staff Judge Advocate, Marine Corps Installations Pacific-Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, Japan.
