A U.S. Marine UH-1Y Huey loaded with supplies lands in Charikot, Nepal, May 8. U.S. Marines and Nepalese soldiers delivered supplies to Charikot and other the rural areas of Nepal. The Nepalese government requested assistance from U.S. Agency for International Development after the 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck their country April 25. In response to the Nepal earthquake, the U.S. military sent Marines, Airmen, Soldiers and Sailors as part of Joint Task Force 505 at the direction of USAID. The U.S. Marine Corps continues to work hand-in-hand with the Nepalese government through USAID as part of Joint Task Force-505.
