Recruits of Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, descend a fast rope during the rappel tower event at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Calif., Aug. 21. Recruits began the event by learning the techniques of fast roping and constructing their own harness before taking on the 60-foot tower. The depot is responsible for training more than 16,000 recruits annually and Alpha Company will graduate recruit training Sept. 4.
