U.S. Marine Cpl. Jeffery Quam waits to start his run at a night live-fire and maneuver exercise in Kuwait, Aug. 19, 2015. Quam is a crew chief with Kilo Company, Battalion Landing Team 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). During the training, Marines used night vision devices to engage targets with the Browning .50 caliber machine gun at unknown distances from Amphibious Assault Vehicles (AAV-7). Elements of the 15th MEU are ashore in Kuwait for sustainment training to maintain and enhance the skills they developed during their pre-deployment training period. The 15th MEU is embarked on the Essex Amphibious Ready Group and deployed to maintain regional security in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
