Recruits of Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, walk across high logs during Obstacle Course II at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Oct. 8. This obstacle incorporates the speed, balance and agility needed to quickly complete the course. The course simulated the dangerous terrain Marines face in combat. Today, all males recruited west of the Mississippi are trained at MCRD San Diego. The depot is responsible for training more than 16,000 recruits annually. Alpha Company is scheduled to graduate Dec. 18.
