A recruit of Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, practices the forward thrust technique during a Marine Corps Martial Arts Program session at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Feb. 10. One of the purposes of MCMAP is to teach recruits basic offensive and defensive techniques, which gives them the opportunity to master the moves in preparation for the MCMAP test later in training. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Alpha Company is scheduled to graduate April 22.
