U.S Marines rush an enemy position during a vertical assault on Ie Shima Island, Japan, March 24, 2017. The assault took place as part of a certification exercise conducted by Expeditionary Operations Training Group. CERTEX involves vertical assault raids, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief training, as part of a readiness evaluation for the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit to join the U.S. Navy’s 7th Fleet. The Marines are with Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, assigned to the 31st MEU, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
