U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Ally Beiswanger/Released 170816-M-WW697-615.JPG
Aug 18, 2017
Lance Cpl. Dakota Yates waits for the light armored vehicle convoy to depart the command post Aug. 16, 2017 in Hokudaien, Japan, during Northern Viper 17. The service members participated in a live-fire exercise and assaulted the target by cover and maneuver, and suppressed fire from Japanese tanks and U.S. light armored vehicles. The U.S. has a vested interest in a secure Pacific; combined-joint exercises enhance regional cooperation between participating nations to collectively deter security threats. Yates, a Miltown, Indiana native, is an LAV driver with 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion attached to 3rd Marine Division through the unit deployment program.
