Recruits with Mike Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, form up before a 5K Hike Aug. 25, 2018 at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C. The recruits, who are in their second week of recruit training, will conduct three hikes of increasing difficulty before the culminating 15K hike after the Crucible. Mike Company is scheduled to graduate Nov. 2, 2018. Today, approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for approximately 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps.
