U.S. Marine Sgt. Michael Romero, left, a satellite operator with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, looks on as Marines execute a counter-to-the-round kick technique during a Marine Corps Martial Arts Program test in the well deck of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge. Sgt. Romero evaluated the Marines, both with Combat Logistics Battalion 22, on their understanding and performance of grey and green belt MCMAP techniques. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
