U.S. Marines assigned to Marine Corps Security Force Regiment participate in the unknown distance daytime course of fire during a Designated Marksmanship course Oct. 23, 2019, at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, Yorktown, Virginia. The role of a Designated Marksman is to provide precision fire to the unit commander for Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Team companies and the Recapture Tactics Team. During the course, Marines learn basic designated marksman employment such as security posture, communications, multi-threat engagements, alternate shooting positions, as well as moving target, unknown distance, and limited visibility engagements.
