U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Joshua English (left), and Lance Cpl. Griffin Rose, both low altitude air defense gunners with 3rd Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, provide surface-to-air defense using the FIM-92 Stinger during Castaway 21.1 on Ie Shima, Okinawa, Japan, March 16, 2021. The exercise demonstrated the Marine Corps’ ability to integrate with the joint force to seize and defend key maritime terrain, provide low-signature sustainment, and execute long-range precision fires in support of naval operations from an expeditionary advanced base. English is native of Vista, California, and Rose is a native of Chicago, Illinois.
