A U.S. Navy corpsman prepares flu vaccines during a mass immunization event as part of Exercise Active Shield 2021 at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, Oct. 20, 2021. The evolution was designed to vaccinate active duty service members at the air station and to simulate the need for a quick response to the spread of a national virus. Active Shield is an annual bilateral training exercise designed to test U.S. and Japanese forces in their ability to respond to contingencies and cooperatively address challenges faced by the installation.
