U.S. Marine Corps Master Sgt. Kevin W. Haunschild, an air-traffic controller with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron , Marine Corps Air Station New River, receives a Bronze Star during an award ceremony at MCAS New River, North Carolina, Jan. 20, 2023. Haunschild was awarded the Bronze Star for his heroic actions in support of the Afghanistan noncombatant evacuation during Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. Operation Freedom’s Sentinel was the continuation of the war in Afghanistan as part of the global war on terrorism. He served as the Marine air-traffic control mobile-team leader with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron162 (Reinforced), 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
