U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Zachary Koon, a UH-1Y Venom crew chief with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 167, fires a .50-caliber machine gun over Blue Mountain Airfield, Arizona, Jan. 23, 2023. HMLA-167 trained to increase proficiency during a unit-level deployment for training. The purpose of the DFT was to increase the squadron’s proficiency in expeditionary close-air support, shore-based operations, and defensive-air maneuvering. HMLA-167 is a subordinate unit of 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, the aviation combat element of II Marine Expeditionary Force.
