U.S. Marines with Battalion Landing Team 2/1, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, simulate performing an emergency stop during a fast rope qualification at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, May 3, 2023. Becoming fast rope qualified allows the Marines of the 31st MEU to conduct rapid insertion from aircraft across a variety of mission sets. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
