QUANTICO, VIRGINIA, 20 Mar 2024. This portrait of General Alfred M. Gray, Jr. by John Solie hangs in the Commanding General’s conference room at Marine Corps University. It is the iconic basis of the “I’m looking for warriors to follow me” poster that so many Marines feel captures the essence of General Gray’s leadership and the intense focus on combat readiness and warfighting he brought to the Corps. Among his many contributions, General Gray is truly the founding father of Marine Corps University, transforming a collection of schools into the heart of a modern PME system. Today, in the wake of General Gray’s passing, MCU honors his legacy by remaining intensely committed to his vision for educating Marines to prevail in combat.
