Former Marine Sgt. Adolfo M. Bayardo (right) is presented with the Purple Heart by Col. Daniel P. Ermer, commanding officer MCLB Barstow, Calif. Bayardo was shot in the neck in 2003 during a firefight in Iraq, but the bullet was not detected until 2009 during an X-Ray at Lloma Linda Unversity Medical Center Veterans Hospital, Loma Linda, Calif. The bullet is still in Bayardo's neck and is considered in operable.
