Lance Cpl.’s Angel G. Frias and Jenny Cartagena talk beside one of the many cherry trees blossoming across base. For nearly two weeks every year cherry trees across the world blossom. The trees are indigenous to Japan and have become a symbol of Japanese culture. The cherry blossom is featured on the 100 yen coin and is the name of the station’s theater, Sakura, the Japanese word for cherry blossoms.
