Marines from Marine Wing Support Squadron 171 lay down gravel for the “Cooper’s Airstrip” at the Pohakuloa Training Area in support of Exercise Lava Viper Jan. 4. The runway was created in nine days by 27 Marines and sailors who volunteered their time during their Christmas and New Year’s holiday. The airstrip was created in honor of 1st Lt. Timothy Cooper.
