Major John F. Bolt, USMC, pictured in front of his F-86 Sabre jet in Korea in 1953. Joining a handful of Naval aviators--notably future astronauts John H. Glenn, Jr. and Wally Schirra--in flying on exchange duty with the U.S. Air Force, Bolt shot down five enemy MiG-15 jets during May to July 1953. In so doing, he became Naval aviation's first jet ace. Bolt, a member of Pappy Boyington's famed "Black Sheep" squadron, was also an ace in World War II, shooting down six Japanese aircraft.
