Thaddaeus I. Haney explodes upward and out of the water in an attempt to block an opponent’s pass during a combat water polo game, May 16 at Camp Pendleton’s 13 Area Pool. Combat water polo was modified from the traditional sport of water polo to provide Marines and sailors the increased safety of a shallow playing field while maintaining difficulty by adding combat boots and utilities.
