University of Alabama law student, John Dawson with Marine Officer Selection Office Tuscaloosa, speaks about his experience in working towards being selected as a Marine Officer Candidate in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, April 5, 2023. He was inspired to pursue commissioning as an officer by his grandfather who served as a Marine, and he has been motivated by his brother who is now an enlisted Marine. Dawson has experienced hurdles during his commissioning process and has persevered in order to be selected for Officer Candidate School. He has now been selected for Officer Candidate School class 244 under a law contract and will go on to train and serve as a Judge Advocate General. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Staff Sgt.
