U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Carter Hughes, a combat engineer with Alpha Company, 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, carries a 155mm artillery round while conducting explosive ordnance disposal operations on Range 10, Camp Schwab, Okinawa, Japan, July 13, 2021. Marines with 3rd EOD Co. and Alpha Co. conducted EOD operations simulating the discovery and disposal of notional foreign unexploded ordnance. 3rd MLG, based out of Okinawa, Japan, is a forward deployed combat unit that serves as III Marine Expeditionary Force’s comprehensive logistics and combat service support backbone for operations throughout the Indo-Pacific area of responsibility. Hughes is a native of Salt Lake City, Utah.
