U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Gage Sutherland, an infantry Marine with Battalion Landing Team 1/5, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, receives scheme of maneuver information for a motorized raid during MEU exercise on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Dec. 16, 2021. The motorized raid was conducted to rehearse nontraditional ways of employing standard assets. MEUEX is a pre-deployment training exercise that validates and reinforces the MEU’s mission capabilities across all of the Marine subordinate elements. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
