U.S. Marines with the maritime raid force, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, fast rope off a UH-1Y Venom helicopter and set up security during visit, board, search, and seizure tactics training at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, May 3, 2023. The VBSS training was conducted to teach BLT 2/1 Marines insertion methods and close quarter tactics for boarding and securing maritime vessels. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
