SUBJ/MEMORIAL DAY//
GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  Each year during the Memorial Day holiday, we pause to honor those who have given their lives in service to our country.  Remembering our fallen is one of the most sacred responsibilities for all who wear the uniform of our great nation and carry on the legacy of our Armed Forces.
2.  Throughout America's history, courageous men and women have answered the call to defend our country and promote peace around the world.  This Memorial Day, we salute those heroes who gave their lives for the cause of freedom.  To them, we owe our deepest gratitude.  We also extend our profound appreciation to the family members our fallen heroes have left behind.
3.  This Memorial Day, I ask each of you to join me in paying tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation, our ideals, and our Corps.  I also ask that you remember those who are forward deployed and forward engaged, bravely standing watch today.  And let us not forget our wounded heroes, our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and members of the Coast Guard who continue fighting to overcome the challenges of the visible and invisible impacts of war.
4.  As we enjoy the Memorial Day weekend, we must also maintain our personal safety and not become needless casualties in avoidable accidents.  Take care of each other and make smart decisions.  Our nation needs you ready to go when the call comes.  Thank you to all who faithfully serve our nation.
5.  Semper Fidelis, Robert B. Neller, General, U.S. Marine Corps, Commandant of the Marine Corps.//
