SUBJ/U.S. ARMED FORCES DAY 2021//
GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  On behalf of the Marine Corps, I want to wish every member of the United States military a happy Armed Forces Day.
2.  In July 1947, President Harry S. Truman signed into law an act consolidating the Armed Forces and various intelligence agencies into a National Military Establishment - the Department of Defense.  Two years later, on 21 August 1949, then-Secretary of Defense Louis
A.  Johnson designated the third Saturday of May as Armed Forces Day in honor of all who served in our Nation's military.
3.  Whether Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Guardians, or Coast Guardsmen, members of the Armed Forces have dedicated themselves to defend our Nation against all who would do us harm – even at the cost of their own lives.  On 15 May 2021, let us honor our fellow service-members with gratitude, fellowship, and respect.  I thank you - the members of the Armed Forces, for your commitment, devotion, and sacrifice for the common good of our Nation.
4.  Semper Fidelis, David H. Berger, General, U.S. Marine Corps, Commandant of the Marine Corps.//
