GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. THE PURPOSE OF THE NATHANIEL STINSON ACHIEVEMENT
AND LEADERSHIP AWARDS IS TO RECOGNIZE AND PUBLICIZE THE EXEMPLARY
ACHIEVEMENTS OF COMMANDS AND ACTIVITIES IN IMPLEMENTING THE
DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY (DON) CIVILIAN HUMAN RESOURCES POLICIES AND
OBJECTIVES. THESE AWARDS ALSO SERVE TO HEIGHTEN AWARENESS OF OUR
DON-WIDE EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY (EEO) EFFORTS AND PERHAPS MOST
IMPORTANTLY, REFLECTS DON'S BELIEF THAT RECOGNIZING AND SUPPORTING
DIVERSITY IS INSTRUMENTAL TO GOOD GOVERNMENT AND A PRODUCTIVE WORK
FORCE. NOMINATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE TWO NATHANIEL STINSON EEO
ACHIEVEMENT AND LEADERSHIP AWARDS CATEGORIES ARE LISTED BELOW.
2. THE NATHANIEL STINSON ACTIVITY EEO PROGRAM ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.
TO BE AWARDED TO THE NAVY AND MARINE CORPS ACTIVITIES WHOSE
ACCOMPLISHMENTS HAVE STRENGTHENED EQUALITY, IMPLEMENTED AFFIRMATIVE
EMPLOYMENT/HUMAN RESOURCES POLICIES AND MANAGED EEO PROGRAMS
DESIGNED TO ENCOURAGE POSITIVE AND CONSTRUCTIVE ATTITUDES.
ELIGIBILITY: LARGE COMPONENT: 1,000 OR MORE EMPLOYEES; MID-SIZE
COMPONENT-500 TO 999 EMPLOYEES; SMALL COMPONENT-499 OR LESS
EMPLOYEES. CRITERIA: COMPLETED NOMINATIONS MUST INCLUDE THE
FOLLOWING:
A. A NARRATIVE (NO MORE THAN TWO PAGES) WHICH BRIEFLY
DESCRIBES YOUR ACTIVITY'S EEO ACHIEVEMENTS AND HOW THEY SUPPORT OR
CONTRIBUTE TO THE DON'S EEO AND AFFIRMATIVE EMPLOYMENT GOALS.
B. SUPPORTING MATERIAL, NO MORE THAN 10 PAGES. THE MATERIAL MAY
INCLUDE POLICY LETTERS, NEWSPAPER ARTICLES, RADIO OR TELEVISION
FEATURES, ETC.
C. DEVELOPMENT OF POLICY OR REAFFIRMATION OF POLICY THROUGH A
MAJOR NEW INITIATIVE.
D. OTHER ACCOMPLISHMENTS WORTHY OF SPECIAL RECOGNITION,
STATISTICAL OR NON-STATISTICAL.
3. EEO LEADERSHIP AWARD. THIS AWARD CATEGORY RECOGNIZES THE
CONTINUING CONTRIBUTIONS OF DON EMPLOYEES IN MANAGEMENT AND
LEADERSHIP POSITIONS WHO HAVE DEMONSTRATED COMMITMENT TO POLICIES
AND PROGRAMS THAT PROMOTE EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY IN THE FEDERAL WORK
PLACE. ELIGIBILITY: ALL DON CAREER EMPLOYEES AND MILITARY MEMBERS
ARE ELIGIBLE. ORGANIZATIONS SHOULD IDENTIFY EMPLOYEES RESPONSIBLE
FOR ACTIVITIES THAT PROVIDED LEADERSHIP AND OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO
THE PUBLIC OR OTHERWISE CONTRIBUTED NOTEWORTHY ACHIEVEMENTS IN
SUPPORT OF EQUAL OPPORTUNITY. CRITERIA: FOR EACH EMPLOYEE ENTERED
FOR CONSIDERATION, THE RESPECTIVE ORGANIZATION SHOULD PREPARE THE
FOLLOWING SUPPORTIVE MATERIAL:
A. NAME, TITLE, GRADE/RANK, ORGANIZATION, ADDRESS OF NOMINEE, AND
NAME AND TELEPHONE NUMBER OF A POINT OF CONTACT.
B. DESCRIPTION OF THE SPECIFIC ACHIEVEMENTS OR SERVICES AND HOW
THEY SUPPORT OR CONTRIBUTE TO THE DON'S EEO AND AFFIRMATIVE
EMPLOYMENT GOALS. THE STATEMENT SHOULD EMPHASIZE SPECIFIC
EXAMPLES. THE SUMMARY SHOULD NOT EXCEED THREE PAGES.
4. COMMANDS AND ACTIVITIES SHOULD FORWARD AN ORIGINAL AND FOUR
COPIES OF EACH NOMINATION PACKAGE TO YOUR SERVICING HUMAN RESOURCES
OFFICE FOR CONSOLIDATION AND SUBMISSION TO HEADQUARTERS, US MARINE
CORPS, CIVILIAN PERSONNEL/EEO SECTION (MPC-10), 3280 RUSSELL RD.,
QUANTICO, VA 22134. NOMINATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY OCTOBER 26, 2006.
5. THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION SHOULD BE PROVIDED IN THE NOMINATION
PACKAGE: A NARRATIVE JUSTIFICATION LETTER; IDENTIFICATION DETAILS
(COMMAND/ACTIVITY, AWARD CATEGORY, CONTACT PERSON, AND TELEPHONE
NUMBERS) TO ASSIST SCREENING COMMITTEE IN THE REVIEW OF THE
NOMINATIONS; A RELEASE WHICH AUTHORIZES THE USE OF ANY PHOTOGRAPH(S)
AND INFORMATION IN THE NOMINATION PACKAGE. THESE ITEMS MAY BE USED
FOR PROGRAM PROMOTION, PREPARATION FOR THE CEREMONY, CEREMONY
DISPLAYS OR BROCHURES, AND OTHER PUBLICITY USES.
6. CEREMONY: AWARD PRESENTATIONS WILL BE MADE BY THE SECRETARY OF
THE NAVY OR HIS DESIGNEE AT THE PENTAGON OR OTHER LOCATION IN THE
WASHINGTON, DC AREA. TRAVEL COSTS AND PER DIEM FOR AWARDEES WILL BE
PAID BY THE SELECTED COMMAND/ACTIVITY OR THE COGNIZANT MAJOR COMMAND.//
