GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  MARINE CORPS AVIATION HAS ESTABLISHED AND MAINTAINED AN UNPRECEDENTED SAFETY RECORD DURING THE LAST FEW YEARS OF HIGH-OPERATIONAL TEMPO TRAINING AND COMBAT OPERATIONS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD.  THIS INCREDIBLE ACHIEVEMENT HAS BEEN ENABLED BY THE PROFESSIONALISM OF OUR PILOTS, NAVAL FLIGHT OFFICERS, AIRCREW, MAINTENANCE MARINES, AND SUPPORT PERSONNEL.  THE SUSTAINED IMPROVEMENT IN AVIATION SAFETY OVER THE PAST FIVE YEARS IS A FUNCTION OF FLEET QUALITY LEADERSHIP AND IMPROVED SAFETY PROCESSES EXECUTED THROUGHOUT ALL LEVELS OF MARINE AVIATION.  EACH AND EVERY MARINE, SAILOR, AND CIVILIAN MARINE THAT SUPPORTS MARINE AVIATION IS VITALLY IMPORTANT TO ACHIEVING THE GOALS OF ELIMINATING MISHAPS AND ENSURING OPERATIONAL SUCCESS.
2.  I TAKE GREAT PLEASURE IN CONGRATULATING ALL THE WINNERS OF THE CALENDAR YEAR 2009 CNO AVIATION SAFETY AWARDS.  THIS AWARD SYMBOLIZES OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE AND AN EXEMPLARY COMMITMENT TO AVIATION SAFETY.  COMMANDERS' ATTENTION TO THE FULFILLMENT OF SAFETY STANDARDS AND DEDICATION TO THAT STANDARD SET THE EXAMPLE FOR ALL TO EMULATE.  THROUGH OPERATIONAL RISK MANAGEMENT, PROACTIVE SAFETY POLICIES, AND COMMITMENT TO IMPROVING THE AVIATION SAFETY PROGRAM, THESE COMMANDS HAVE ACHIEVED SUPERIOR RESULTS IN THE PRESERVATION OF ASSETS AND LIVES.  PARTICULARLY NOTEWORTHY ARE UNITS THAT ARE CONSECUTIVE WINNERS OF THIS AWARD.
