Kadena captain dies near Sunabe seawall

A captain assigned to the 18th Medical Support Squadron died here around 1:30 p.m. Oct. 9.

Capt. Amy Brown went unconscious shortly after surfacing at a dive spot on the Sunabe seawall. The medical readiness flight commander was rushed to Camp Lester Naval Hospital, Japan, by local authorities, but medical staff were unable to revive her.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to Amy's family," said Brig. Gen. Kenneth S. Wilsbach, the 18th Wing commander. "We are saddened by the loss of a valued team member."

The incident is currently under investigation.
