GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  THE PURPOSE OF THIS MARADMIN IS TO IDENTIFY NEW REQUIREMENTS FOR THE MARINE SECURITY GUARD PROGRAM.
    A.  MARINE SECURITY GUARD (MSG) DUTY PROVIDES MARINES THE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE OVERSEAS WITH THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE AT U.S. EMBASSIES AND CONSULATES THROUGHOUT THE WORLD.  THE MISSION OF MARINE SECURITY GUARDS IS TO PROVIDE PROTECTION TO MISSION PERSONNEL AND PREVENT THE COMPROMISE OF NATIONAL SECURITY INFORMATION AND EQUIPMENT AT DESIGNATED DIPLOMATIC AND CONSULAR FACILITIES.  MARINES SEEKING TO BE PART OF THIS CHALLENGING, REWARDING AND CAREER ENHANCING DUTY MUST MEET THE PREREQUISITES LISTED BELOW AND MUST COMPLETE A 4-PHASED APPLICATION PROCESS BEFORE ATTENDING MSG SCHOOL AT MARINE CORPS EMBASSY SECURITY GROUP (MCESG) IN QUANTICO, VA.
    B.  UPON COMPLETION OF MSG SCHOOL, MSGS (LCPL-SGT) WILL COMPLETE THREE 12 MONTH TOURS AND DETACHMENT COMMANDERS (SSGT-MGYSGT) WILL COMPLETE TWO 18 MONTH TOURS AT DIFFERENT EMBASSIES.  ADDITIONAL BENEFITS TO THE MSG PROGRAM INCLUDE OBTAINING A TOP SECRET SECURITY CLEARANCE, DIRECT INTERACTION WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF STATE AS WELL AS OTHER U.S. GOVERNMENT AGENCIES AND TRAVEL OPPORTUNITIES.
2.  PREREQUISITES FOR MSG DUTY ARE:  U.S. CITIZEN, NO NJPS IN THE LAST 12 MONTHS, CORPORALS AND BELOW MUST HAVE PRO AND CON MARKS OF 4.2/4.2 AVERAGE IN SERVICE.  SERGEANTS AND BELOW MUST NOT BE MARRIED OR HAVE SOLE CUSTODY OF THEIR DEPENDENTS AND HAVE A MINIMUM GT SCORE OF 90.  MSGS (LCPL-SGT) MUST HAVE 18 MONTHS TIME ON STATION AND DETACHMENT COMMANDERS (SSGT-MGYSGT) MUST HAVE 24 MONTHS TIME ON STATION PRIOR TO SUBMITTING AN MSG PACKAGE.   (IF THE MARINE IS ON A 24 MONTH TOUR, SNM CAN SUBMIT WITH 12 MONTHS ON STATION).  A SNCO'S FAMILY CANNOT EXCEED FOUR DEPENDENTS (MARRIED WITH THREE CHILDREN), CANNOT HAVE A SPOUSE WHO IS ACTIVE DUTY OR ACTIVE RESERVE, AND CANNOT BE A SINGLE PARENT.  ALL MARINES MUST HAVE 38 MONTHS OF OBLIGATED SERVICE UPON REPORTING TO MSG SCHOOL (36 MONTHS SERVING ON MSG PROGRAM AND 2 MONTHS AT MSG SCHOOL).
3.  NEW REQUIREMENTS:  SEVERAL NEW REQUIREMENTS HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THE SDA MANUAL.  THE MSG SCREENING TEAM WILL BEGIN ENFORCING THE NEW REQUIREMENTS IMMEDIATELY.  NEW REQUIREMENTS ARE AS FOLLOWS:  ALL MARINES MUST HAVE A 1ST CLASS PFT; ALL MARINES MUST BE A MINIMUM OF 64 INCHES TALL; ALL MARINES MUST HAVE AN ADJUDICATED SECRET CLEARANCE PRIOR TO APPLYING; SNCO'S MUST HAVE A GT SCORE OF 100; SNCO'S YOUNGEST CHILD MUST BE 9 MONTHS OLD PRIOR TO REPORTING TO MSG SCHOOL; SNCOS CANNOT HAVE A FAMILY MEMBER ASSIGNED TO EFMP; AND SNCO'S SPOUSES MUST OBTAIN U.S. CITIZENSHIP PRIOR TO APPLYING.  ALL ANNUAL TRAINING MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO REPORTING UNLESS WAIVER IS GRANTED BY HQMC.
