Brig. Gen. James W. Lukeman, 2nd Marine Division commanding general, offers his remarks and condolences to the crowd gathered outside the Main Gate of Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune March 19. An explosion occurred shortly before 10 p.m., March 18 at Hawthorne Army Depot, Nev., while a 2nd Marine Division unit was conducting a live-fire training exercise. The Marine leadership on scene has already begun an investigation. The explosion was believed to have been caused by a 60mm mortar round during a live-fire training exercise. The cause of the incident is under investigation, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
