Former Marine Corps first lieutenant and retired NBA player, Richie Guerin, jokes with Marines of Recruiting Station Albany, 1st Marine Corps District, after the retiring of his jersey at halftime of the Manhattan Jaspers vs. the Iona Gaels game at Iona College, New Rochelle, N.Y., Jan. 31. Guerin served in the Marine Corps Reserves from 1947 to 1954, during which he attended Iona College where he scored 1,375 points in only 67 games. Upon his graduation he served on active duty for two years. In 1954, while still on active duty, Guerin was drafted, in the second round, by the New York Knicks where he eventually became known as one of the most talented and beloved player to ever wear a Knicks jersey. He retired from the NBA in 1967 and now resides in Palm Beach, Fla., with his wife, Pat. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Caleb Gomez).
