A trombone player with the Brazilian Marine Corps band plays for a reception held in the hangar bay of the future amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) at Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, Aug. 7, 2014. The band played music throughout the night to include the national anthems of Brazil and the United States. The reception was hosted by the Sailors and Marines of America and Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force South for Brazilian diplomats and military officials. The evening of food, music and dancing concluded with speeches from Rear Adm. Frank L. Ponds, commander of Expeditionary Strike Group 3 and The Honorable Liliana Ayalde, U.S. Ambassador to Brazil. America is currently on her maiden transit, “America Visits the Americas”. The transit is a clear example of our Nation’s commitment to our regional partners and allies, demonstrating the Navy-Marine Corps integration in action. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by 1st Lt.
