MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – (From Left) Col. Kenneth M. DeTreux, the commanding officer of 8th Marine Regiment and native of Philadelphia, Penn., along with JoAnn L. Lyles from Sag Harbor, N. Y., Rebecca A. Yale from Meherrin, Va., and Christian V. Haerter from Sag Harbor, N.Y., cut the ribbon to reopen the Yale Haerter Mess Hall, formerly the Wallace Creek Dining Hall, at a dedication ceremony to honor Cpl. Johnathan T. Yale and Lance Cpl. Jordan C. Haerter Aug. 28, 2014, aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C. Yale and Haerter died protecting their fellow Marines in Iraq when they engaged and stopped a truck loaded with 2,000 pounds of explosives before it reached its intended target in April 2008. Both Marines were posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for heroism. Rebecca Yale is the mother of Johnathan Yale and JoAnn Lyles and Christian Haerter are the parents of Jordan Haerter.
