Tammie Ashley sits outside of the 2nd Law Enforcement Battalion kennels with her son’s former Military Working Dog, Sirius, at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., Feb. 25, 2016. Tammie’s son and Sirius’ former handler, Sgt. Joshua Ashley, was killed while on patrol in 2012 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The Ashley family adopted Sirius after a passing of the leash retirement ceremony.
