Food service Marines with 3d Marine Logistics Group are given the chance to show their creativity and step away from their routine during the Chef of the Quarter competition at the Camp Kinser Mess Hall, September 28, 2017 in Okinawa, Japan. The Marines are tested on their cooking abilities and judged by two food service Marines and two Marines from other military occupational specialties. This competition allows participants to receive critiques and improve their skills in the kitchen. Food specialists Cpl. Tina Curtis and Lance Cpl. ‘Firebirds’ Marines strive for best field mess in the Pacific region

U.S. Marines with Marine Wing Support Squadron 172 cook a three-course meal during a food service evaluation designed for the Maj. Gen. William Pendleton Thompson Hill Award at Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan, December 8, 2017. MWSS-172 Marines competed to earn the title ‘Best Field Mess’ for the Asia-Pacific region. Established in 1985, the W.P.T Hill award was created to reward high quality food service by identifying the best mess halls and field messes throughout the Marine Corps and encouraging a commitment to excellence through competition. The Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C.’s Single Marine Program hosts the eighth annual Thanksgiving dinner aboard the air station, Nov. 23, 2017. Volunteers from Marine Corps Community Services and the outside community served over 800 Marines and their family members a full-course meal and desserts. Food service specialists participate in the Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron’s Chef of the Quarter competition at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., Aug. 10, 2017. This was the fourth quarter competition. The quarterly competition tests Marines on the taste of their food, plate display, table appearance and culinary knowledge. Cpl. Sarah Campbell was this quarter’s winner and was awarded a medal for her culinary skills. Campbell is assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron 274, Marine Aircraft Group 29, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing.
